lib.rario.us?

without comments

librarious-2.jpgIn my search for a way to catalog my music CDs, DVDs and Games similar to LibraryThing or Goodreads I came across lib.rario.us. I’ve been trying it out and it seems pretty neat. I’ve added a few things to try it out. So far so good, I don’t think it’s as pretty or as functional as the books only sites, but it’s new so it could be.

What I like:

  • The “add to lib.rario.us” bookmarklet
  • It does more than books! Hurray! Finally a way to add my music CDs, DVDs and video Games.

    What I wish were different:

    • I’d like to be able see my collection in different modes – just images, sort of like a tag cloud or just a text list.
    • I don’t see a way to search for people I know, am I missing something?

Is anyone else using this? How do you like it? Is there something you’re using that you like better?

      Web 2.0 Class Complete!

      with 2 comments

Yesterday Robin and I finished our two day workshop on Web 2.0. It was so much fun! I have to agree with Robin, I was surprised at how excited about all things Web 2.0 I got just from talking about it for 2 days. Trust me, I had no problems talking about it for 2 days, I think I could have gone for a third!

The classroom set up and number of participants was perfect, it allowed for some real hands on help when we gave them time to create and play with their new accounts.  They were excited about what they can do and asked some really great questions.  I can’t wait to see how they implement what they learned for themselves and for their libraries!

      Workshop Prep

      without comments

The next couple of months will be a flurry of activity for me personally and professionally. First up personally, I’m moving, no new job, just leaving my house and moving into an apartment in a nearby time. I’ve been busying making phone calls, finding a place to live and packing. I had no idea I had so much “stuff”! :)

First up, professionally, I’m prepping for a 2 day work work shop that Robin and I are giving on Web 2.0 at Winter Institute. Robin and I co-present a bit differently than any other duo I’ve seen; instead of one of us presenting for the first half and the other for the second, we present together. We take turns on the slides and both contribute content to everything. It takes a bit more time, but I think it works great.

      23 Things updates from PLCM

      without comments

PLCMC, who we “stole” our Library Learning 2.0 program from, has created a Zoho Notebook to highlight updates to the applications they used in the 23 Things since the lessons were written. The guide shows the original date the lesson was posted, how the tool worked “then” and now it works “now”, it’s interesting to see documentation of how much things have evolved.

      Unconference Here I Come!

      with 2 comments

Ever since reading about the Kansas Library Camp on David Lee King’s blog I’ve been plotting how to crash the party (I’m in Missouri). It’s only a four hour drive and the chance to mingle with some great minds, sounds just too good to pass up.

      From the site:

Think some of the most valuable and most productive sessions at conferences are the hallway and dinner conversations?

Want to get to know some of your forward-thinking Kansas library colleagues better?

Join us at Library Camp Kansas: the first Un-conference for people interested in customer-friendly libraries, library 2.0 and thinking about how we can all improve our services and organizations to meet the needs of our communities.

This is not a conference with experts behind a podium. It is an opportunity for dialogue and conversation. Sound good to you? Join us on Wednesday, March 19, at K-State’s Hale Library!

My plans were successful and today I registered! I’m looking forward to hearing some great new ideas and meeting some wonderful people!

      Hard work pays off!

      without comments

Not mine this time, Robins! She developed a search our catalog app for our Facebook page and she’s been contacted several times by people wanting help creating one for their library. I have no doubt she was helpful and nice and gave them excellent advice!

Robin and I often work together here at the library or with taking our show on the road for presentations and she really knows her stuff!
